When Kelly Lemon asked me help design my friend Tonie’s baby shower (of Tonie Christine Photography), I didn’t hesitate at the opportunity! Tonie and my husband went to high school together, so we’ve known her for a long time and are very excited for her, and her husband Eric, as they await the arrival of their baby girl.
Kelly wanted to create a gold, black and white geometric themed baby shower for Tonie as a reflection of her company branding. I had the pleasure of designing and decorating the mantel and dessert bar, as well as creating the florals for this event.
I love when clients (or good friends) have a theme in mind and are looking for someone to execute it and add creativity, that is my sweet spot! I knew once I heard Kelly’s theme that I was going to love this project and set out sketching and dreaming up what I wanted to create.
In fact, here is a sketch from my brainstorm night where I was looking at photos Kelly had pinned on Pinterest and brainstorming what we could do given the venue where we were hosting the shower (Tonie’s beautiful home).
Once I saw that Tonie had a white kitchen table where Kelly was hoping to display the desserts, I came up with this idea to create my own table cloth by cutting out black and gold triangles. I didn’t have a specific pattern in mind, just knew I wanted it to look geometric, so I placed them where I thought they looked good.
I wanted to ensure there were a few “baby” elements to my design so that it reflected the occassion we were celebrating. I decided to paint wood blocks with gold paint in alternating patterns to create the look I wanted. I love how the blocks turned out! These will be really cute in Tonie’s baby room or could act as stand alone decor in her home.
I wanted to ensure that our florals were white to match our theme, but had some texture and interest in the arrangement. I paired white roses with white stock, seeded eucalyptus and scabiosa pods. The arrangements turned out just like I had hoped!
(frame is intentially hiding the baby’s name….it’s a surprise!)
My dear friend Celena, from Francis & Co. did a fabulous job on the calligraphy of each of the dessert and food items, as well as the name tags and games. Her amazing penmenship makes my work look good, thanks lady!
Kelly did an amazing job coordinating the food, games and being a lovely hostess. Overall it was such a fun night catching up with friends, celebrating the Mom-to-be and getting an opportunity to work with some amazing local vendors (or friendors as I like to call them).
Tonie – can’t wait to meet your little girl soon, congratulations my friend!
