We have the privilege of working with clients from all over the country, and now we can add “all over the world” to that description. Michael and Ayumi live in two different cities in Japan, but wanted an intimate wedding in the greater Seattle area, where Michael’s parents currently live. With a small guest count of only 25 people (including a couple of small children), we set out to find the perfect location that highlighted the beauty of the Northwest, was exclusive and intimate for their group, and reflected the couples personal style. JM Cellars was the perfect fit for their mid-July 2017 wedding.

Michael + Ayumi: July 19, 2017

The Couple:

Michael is a professional basketball coach in Japan (and was once a professional basketball player!), and Ayumi is a lawyer for a large firm in Tokyo. The two have been dating for 8 years! I learned that four of those years they have lived together in the same city, and the other four have been spent doing long distance. Both are extremely career driven and very successful, yet their love for each other is so strong and they both travel great distances (sometimes weekly) to be together, even if just for a night. It was a special moment to witness their union after all these years!

The Design:

Ayumi and Michael both love the outdoors, and natural colors and elements. Playing off of the ambiance of JM Cellars, I created a subtle color palette of taupe, mauve and cream with wood and pewter textures. Since the wedding was intimate, I knew I wanted one long reception table for everyone to gather around. I added an organic table runner down the length of the three tables and added a lush floral arrangement in a concrete compote to each table. Then I sprinkled in clusters of taper candles and mercury votives, with smaller bud vases. I wanted the candle light to be the main ambiance in the dimly lit room, with enough space in between the centerpieces for conversation and clear visibility. Lastly I added custom menu’s and place cards in both English and Japanese to each place setting. This table had all of my favorite elements and was even more stunning in person.

With delicious wine and Northwest inspired entrees, paired with the beauty of the blooms and the ambiance of the room, it was a wedding Michael and Ayumi’s family and close friends won’t forget!
