This beautiful Spring wedding was our first of the 2017 season. Erik and Elaine wanted an intimate ceremony with family and close friends at the urban Within SoDo, followed by a cocktail style reception. Elaine wanted to incorporate vintage details and I think we found a great balance with our bright Spring color palette (pink, cream and green), lush florals, custom signage from Chalk Boss and vintage rentals from Something Borrowed (a Portland based rental company, the owner is friends with the bride!) and Vintage Ambiance. We loved how everything came together and Erik and Elaine looked stunning!

The Couple:

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Erik and Elaine for almost 9 years. I used to work with Erik and met Elaine when they started dating at work events. Erik is a sweet, genuine guy who always wants to know how your doing and has a smile on his face. Elaine is fast paced spitfire who is hilarious (you can see how they make a great pair!). They are both passionate about their careers, their two Corgis (more like their babies), and are incredible friends. Erik and Elaine’s generosity and love towards their family and friends was so evident as we went through the wedding planning process. It was an honor to work with the two of them and play a role in their special day!

The Design:

Elaine first came to me with the idea of a Midsummer Night’s Wedding in an urban setting. She loved the lush garden, moss filled look from Midsummer Night images and knew fresh greenery would pair well with her exposed beam and brick wedding venue at Within SoDo. We started with a color palette of white, cream, blush and then added in navy blue and mixed metal accents, primarily focusing on silver as she loved the idea of each centerpiece sitting on a vintage silver tray. We designed bud vases with a mix of pink garden roses, quicksand roses, pink waxflower, blush ranunculus, pink veronica and ruscus, and placed two at varying heights at each table. We then added silver mercury votive candles and potted succulents where we added moss to bring in the lush feel Elaine wanted to achieve. These items sat on the vintage silver trays and served as our centerpiece for the reception tables.

For the ceremony we wanted to design something simple that highlighted the space, a great room with incredible natural light, and Elaine requested lots of greenery down the aisle. We used raw wood stumps that were dusted with gold spray paint to give them a little bit of shine, with hurricane vases and white pillar candles at varying heights. We then added eucalyptus around the stumps and down the aisle to added in greenery. We anchored this look by hanging a large floral chandelier above where the couple stood when they said their vows.

Since the reception didn’t include a formal sit down dinner, we provided a handful of tables for guests to sit and mingle at, but the entire venue (including the roof top!), was available for guests to explore. As guests nibbled on heavy appetizers, sipped cocktails and enjoyed the evening, the dance floor opened up and Dick’s Burgers were even brought in for a late night snack!

The cake and photo table, both in the same room, turned out to be one of my favorite areas at the wedding. Lane from Something Borrowed is a friend of Elaine’s, and generously donated her vintage cake stands in clear and pink glass for Candice, from Eat More Cake by Candice, to add three different cutting cakes, dessert bites and her famous caramels. We choose a sage green runner for the cake table because we wanted it to pop a little in the space set in front of beautiful antique gold mirrors (part of the venue). We added a navy blue runner, a couple of bud vases and silver mercury votive candles. Signage from Chalk Boss polished off the look and informed guests of the cake design Erik selected, and the one Elaine selected.

Thank you to all of the vendors that helped make this beautiful wedding happen!
